Credit Card Roadside Benefits: What's Hidden in Your Card Perks

Some credit cards include roadside benefits. Most cardholders don't know they have them.

5 min read

Many premium credit cards (Chase Sapphire Reserve, American Express Platinum, Capital One Venture X) include roadside assistance as a card benefit.

Coverage varies. Some cards include a fixed number of free service calls per year. Others provide pay-per-use roadside at a fixed discount rate.

To use card-included roadside, call the number on the back of the card. The dispatch routes through the card's service contractor.

Pros: usually no cost or low cost per call. Cons: same contractor response issues as auto club — slower than direct roadside services.

Check your card benefits guide. Many cardholders pay for separate auto-club memberships while their credit card already covers them.

Quick Tips

  • Check your premium credit cards for included roadside
  • Coverage varies by card — read the benefits guide
  • Use the card's number, not the operator's, to activate coverage
  • Card-included roadside has contractor delays
  • Don't double-pay for auto-club coverage if your card already includes it
